A brief note…

Dad’s doctor says he needs to eat, needs to put he weight back on that he lost in the hospital.  Getting him to do so is another story entirely because he tells the doctor, “Yes, you’re right.”  And he tells me, “I don’t feel like it”.  But, hopefully, he’ll find his appetite somewhere and things will improve.

Knitting Chatter, Saturdays 8:00 PM to 11:00 PM EST

See the “Knitting Chatter” button on the side bar for more information.

Chatters is on for tomorrow night.  Bring your knitting/crocheting (whatever) and join in the conversation!

Have a lovely weekend :)

  2. i’m glad you were able to hear from the doctor what your dad needs to do, although convincing him to do it will be most frustrating- contrary to what seems to be public opinion, putting weight *on* can be just as annoying as taking it *off*- hopefully all the yummy summer seasonals plus maybe a few side trips to the local ice cream parlor will tempt his appetite, and he can regain his strength and be the ‘frisky senior’ he’s always been-

i’ll try to join in with you and your chatters tomorrow- maybe you can inspire me out of my summer knitting doldrums or at least provide an impetus toward picking up deadline projects again-

    meanwhile, stay happy-

  3. Tell him his meals are medication. If he can adjust his thinking from “not hungry’ to “it’s time to eat”, it will be easier for him. It is hard to have an appetite when you don’t feel well enough to be active, but the strength to be active comes from good eating.. Also, as I am sure the hospital dietician has told you, there are lots of easy to eat (or drink) nutritional supplements out there, starting with good old Ensure. It comes in lots of luscious flavors. Good luck to both of you. knitting.gif width=43 height=29

  4. Chris - Thanks for the support - it’s most kind :)  He did seem a little better today and did have some lumch.  I also set up two meals for him that he will only have to put in the microwave - no prep, no cooking.  I have great hopes for that!

  5. Barb - He tells me he’s put back a whole 1/2 lb!  Heheh…  It’s slow, but I’m beginning to think things are moving in the right direction.

I know you’ve got a bazillion things clamoring for your attention, but if you make it to chat, I promise we’ll do our best to inspire the pants off you :)

Or would that be too much?  cheeky-smiley-006.gif width=32 height=32

  6. Kathy Sue - Hey, that’s a terrific idea!  I can see how the shift from just eating food to taking medicine could make all the difference.  I’ll absolutely try that with him.  Thanks so much for the thoughtful suggestion :)

  7. Best wishes to your dad. Would smoothies interest him at all? I hope he finds something to tempt him to eat a little more. Hugs!

  8. Lisa - A smoothie isn’t a bad idea, now that you mentionit.  He doesn’t have a blender, but I could supply that.  Hmmmm…

  9. Too bad we can’t give your dad an appetite stimulant like I do with my cat. :-P

  10. Opal - Oh boy - from your lips to God’s ears :)  He is doing better though.  Today he got through most of a bowl of soup, most of a piece of custard pie and two cups of coffee - much better than he has been doing.
