Cables - Taking the Crooked Path

We have a lovely, sunny day here for a change.  I don’t know if it will stay that way, but it’s certainly starting out nicely :)  As I am headed out this afternoon for lunch and a long overdue visit with a friend, this is promising.

I went to work in earnest last night on the cabled stole and was pleased to see the numbers were still right and that it wasn’t just an anomaly of late hours and annoyance deluding me into thinking everything was perfect.

Cable Canon

This is interesting because the front side is variously cabled in many places on every right side row.  Last night I was marveling at how it seemed I was slogging through a right-side row and positively racing through a wrong-side row.  It really isn’t far enough along to get a feel for how it’s going to look, but I remain hopeful :)

You may notice an error in the cabling here.  I made the same mistake in each of the three sets of cables.  Soooo…I’m considering repeating the “sequence” when I get to the other end and calling it a feature rather than a bug :)

I really need to get back to work on the Lady Eleanor from the Scarf Style book and finish up my Dulaan projects so they can get shipped out next month.

I hope you all have wonderful weekends!

  1. Lovely stole idea - can’t wait to see it finished! I, too, need to get my Dulaan items finished & ready to mail. I keep thinking that as soon as school is out, I’ll have all the time in the world. Then again, the boys will be home for almost 3 weeks (before the summer program starts at our community center) so it’s anyone’s guess how much I’ll actually accomplish.  Treadmill.gif width=50 height=50

  2. Bron - I sympathize with he parental obligation thing.  I’ve noticed that I’m beginning to take knitting with me now when I go out where I didn’t before.  It doesn’t embarass Myria when I kip and I get a few rows done every now and again :)  Maybe that’s an option you could explore?

  3. I love the cabling - especially the “feature”. Somehow, all of my knitting ends up with added features….

  4. Kathy - Thanks :)  I try to keep the features to a minimum but sometimes things turn out…erm…feature rich!

have you ever looked at the free patterns at that site? there are some wonderful cables that are categorized by stitch count- i thought about you when i was looking there today-

ah, ‘design features’ are an integral part of whatever i make- i also forever after feel obligated to point them out! i wonder if the same personality quirk that causes me to say ‘what, this old thing’ even if i am secretly quite pleased with what i am wearing makes me do that?

i need to spend this coming week doing the *fun* things to the items in my dulaan box- you know, the sewing up and running ends- i kept telling myself to really finish off each item, but grasshopper tendencies got in the way!

    stay happy-

  6. Since I can’t even see the cable error, I say “go for it” :)

  7. Barb - I’ve never minded the sewing up parts which, of course, doesn’t mean I won’t avoid it if possible :)

Those aran patterns were well worth the look.  THan ks for the URL!
