Scarf Success!

Okay, I got the scarf started and I think it’s really cool :)

Cabled scarf

Cabled scarf

It’s just two of the cable panel from the hat with 3 garter stitches at the beginning, middle and end of the row.  I wanted some way to prevent curling and tried seed stitch on the first iteration - it looked kinda clunky though.  So I tried again with garter stitch and it worked well.  Even better, it looked nice which surprised me.  To my eye, garter stitch has little attraction but it seems to me that the little columns of it in the scarf set the cables off nicely :)  And I’ve done that cable so many times now I don’t even have to look at the chart any more which really speeds things up.

And it doesn’t curl!  At all!

I had hoped to start something else yesterday, but I came a cropper on that one :)  It would have been better if I’d had something specific in mind, don’t you think?  I didn’t really - what I was thinking about was this:

Assorted yarns

Assorted blue-greens

These are all cotton, except for the top left which is cotton/rayon with a smidge of silk.  The colors go really nicely together but there isn’t much length.  There’s about 100 yards of each of the top two and about 200 yards (combined) of the bottom yarn.  There’s not a lot to work with and yet they seem to want to go together.  I could just put them in a bowl and look at the pretty colors until something suggests itself - but I thought I would ask all you nice people as well - if this was yours, what would you do with it?

I noticed yesterday, with the rain and the extremely high humidity, that my birch needles were definitely sticky.  It makes sense; wood does that when the humidity is high - I just hadn’t thought about it in connection with my knitting :)  With the return of the sun and dryer air today, things are moving along much more smoothly!

Have a wonderful weekend!

  4. Thanks for all the suggestions Barb!  I’ll take some time to explore them this evening :)  This should be fun!

Oh do get some bright pink yarn for yourself - it’s so cheerful to work on and makes an emphatic statement without being dark or overbearing.  I’m really enjoying the thought of wearing this color this winter!

  5. I agree that hot pink is cheerful - the same properties as red. You feel better just looking at that end of the spectrum. Great scarf & stitch combo.

I’ll think awhile on those blue-greens..hmmmm….

Oh - don’t forget to take note of my changed email!

  6. Hi Bron - I’ll post the pattern when I get it written out - it’s good if you can cable without a needle because there are crosses on every right side row - maybe a bit tedious?  But I love the way it looks :)
