We had a fun day up in Maine. We didn’t get back home until about 9:30 PM and I didn’t knit a stitch all day. That is, however, more than compensated for (as many things are) by a book. I had first seen it about two years ago and have been kicking myself ever since for not picking it up.
Finally!
Understand that when I first saw this, I had yet to knit my first sock and was still relatively certain that socks would forever be beyond me :) But this book really fired my imagination! Look at these:

These completely knock me out. Simple, almost rudimentary ribbing, toe and heel and tons of beautiful tiny knitted tiles for the leg and foot. I am absolutely going to try these babies - as soon as I stop drooling over the picture :)
There’s socks that are just plain fun…
Little Piggy Toes
I confess I probably won’t try this one - or at least not for a while. But c’mon, piggies for your piggies! How irresistible is that?
And socks that are pretty fancy…
Feather and Fan Socks
You could wear these under your wedding gown, were you so inclined.
It’s not so much having these patterns, though that’s a very good thing, it’s the boot in the imagination they provide, going from gentle variations of standards to totally outside-the-box color and construction. My mind picks up these things and races away with them, speculating about further variations and constructions. If you can only have one toy, a mind is a wonderful thing to play with :)
I have barely let this book out of my hands since we got home last night and I suspect Myria thought I was going to sleep with it :)
So today it’s back to the Tee and tomorrow, providence willing, there will be progress!

I look at that book almost every time I go to B&N. It inspires me too… Some books are like that, I may never knit a stitch from it…but the photos inspire me, motivate me…make me WANT to knit. Glad you had fun.
That is one great book. I wanted to knit the licorice socks but never could keep the ‘yarn’ out of my mouth;-)

Margene - That’s such a fun idea! Though I have to wonder how well it would work here at Heat ‘n Humidity central :) There are other things besides yarn and licorice though… I’m thinking about a sock made out of straw (raffia? something like that) along the lines (size-wise) of a Christmas stocking that you could fill with dried flowers and hang on a doorknob - or your front porch or something…
I love this book, but have yet to knit something out of it yet! I love the licorice socks but can’t imagine what I’d do with them after they were done. Did you see the mini socks - way cool! So happy you are enjoying it!
I’m doing the sideways sox right now - they are so fun to knit up! I’ve also done the watermelon socks (very cute), and have taken bits and pieces from several of the fair isle charts to use in other projects. I love that there are so many ideas to work from in this book. Every time I pick it up, I am inspired in some new way.
Theresa - the mini-socks are just adorable, but they will have to wait a bit as I’m still trying to get confortable with the regular sized item :)
Kathy - I was reading through the pattern for the sideways socks this morning - such a cool concept! Definitely on my I-gotta-try-this list :) The watermelon socks are cute too - and it would be so simple to make a hat to go with them!

Love your blog! You’re and inspiration. That book looks great! I think I have to make those pig socks. Too cool. I’m the same way, I love to create in my mind what I’d like to knit next. I take details from everything I see and spend hours thinking about what I could do if I did actually get around to knitting these things. That’s so much fun. 
I have looked at that book a few times. There are some great socks. I love the feather and fan socks. I am sure you will coming up with all kinds of new sock ideas.Have a great weekend.

Kimberly - I know what you mean. Sometimes I can’t go to sleep for all the ideas buzzing around in my head. But I don’t get upset about that; I just get up and knit :)
Maureen - I’m thinking I’m going to want Interweave Press’ <u>Folk Socks</u> too :) Not that I’d knoit socks to the exclusion of other things, but it seems like they’re going to be a staple.
Bron - Didn’t expect to hear from you on this one…heheh. Yeah, the entrelac socks are just amazing! Now I have to find the right yarn!
